Totalitarianism
A political system in which the state holds total control over the society and seeks to impose its ideology on all aspects of public and private life.
Franco's Regime
The authoritarian rule of Francisco Franco in Spain from 1939 to 1975, characterized by fascist and nationalist policies.
Mussolini
Benito Mussolini, the founder of Italian fascism, who ruled Italy from 1922 until his execution in 1945.
Fascism
A far-right, authoritarian ultranationalist political ideology characterized by dictatorial power, forcible suppression of opposition, and strong regimentation of society.
Black Shirts
Paramilitary groups formed by Mussolini's Fascist Party in Italy, known for their violent tactics against socialists and communists.
March on Rome
A 1922 march led by Mussolini and the Fascists that resulted in Mussolini being appointed Prime Minister of Italy.
Lacer Pact
A 1929 agreement establishing Vatican City as an independent state and recognizing its sovereignty.
Weimar Republic
The democratic government established in Germany after World War I, which faced significant political and economic challenges.
Hyperinflation
An extremely high and typically accelerating rate of inflation, often exceeding 50% per month, which occurred in Germany in the early 1920s.
SA (Sturmabteilung)
The Stormtroopers, a paramilitary group of the Nazi Party in Germany, initially used for protecting party meetings and attacking opponents.
SS (Schutzstaffel)
The Schutzstaffel, an elite paramilitary organization under Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party, known for overseeing the police and eventually the concentration camps.
Scapegoating
The practice of blaming an individual or group for problems or injustices, often used by totalitarian regimes to divert public attention.
Aryan Race

A purge that took place in Nazi Germany in 1934, where the SA leadership was killed to consolidate Hitler's power.

A term meaning people's community, used in Nazi Germany to promote the idea of a unified national identity.
