Associative Property of Multiplication
A property stating that when factors are grouped in different ways using parentheses, the product remains the same, such as (4×2)×2=4×(2×2).
Commutative Property of Multiplication
A property stating that changing the order of the factors does not change the product, such as 3×5=5×3.
Multiplicative Identity Element
The number 1, which keeps any number the same when multiplied by it.
Decomposing Factors
A strategy where a factor is broken down into a product of smaller factors, such as decomposing 30 into 3×10, to make mental multiplication easier.
Zero Pattern Rule in Multiplication
A multiplication rule where the product has the same number of zeroes as the factor containing zeroes (such as multiples of 10, 100, or 1,000), unless the basic fact product itself ends in a zero.
