Salmonella
Responsible for a disease called bacillary dysentery. Found only in humans
Shigella
Commonly found in soil and water. Many isolates fix nitrogen. One species can cause serious pneumonia in humans.
Klebsiella
Produces a red pigment. In hospitals, can be found on catheters, in saline irrigation solutions and other supposedly sterile solutions.
Serratia
Exhibits swarming type of growth. Implicated in many infections of the urinary tract and in wounds.
