Character
The individuals who take part in the action of a narrative.
Plot
The sequence of events/actions in a narrative text.
Exposition
The beginning of a narrative that introduces character, setting, and situation, hinting at the main conflict.
Inciting Incident/Force
The moment at which the major conflict is created or revealed to the reader.
Rising Action
A series of events that complicate the main conflict, building towards the climax.
Crisis
A moment within the rising action when the protagonist is faced with a crucial decision.
Climax
The point of highest tension in the narrative; the turning point of the plot.
Falling Action
A series of events between the climax and the denouement that unravels the main conflict.
Denouement/Resolution
The end of a narrative where the main conflict is completely resolved.
Conflict
The opposition of two forces which drives the plot.
Subplot
A secondary story that reinforces the themes through repetition or contrast.
Protagonist
The central character in a narrative.
Antagonist
The adversary of the central character.
Round Character
A fully developed complex character with depth.
Flat Character
A limited, undeveloped character with few traits.
Stock/Stereotypical Character
A flat character in a standard role with standard traits.
Static Character
A character who does not change or only changes superficially.
Dynamic Character
A character who changes significantly in response to the narrative's actions.
Foil Character
A minor character designed to emphasize a particular trait of the protagonist.
Antihero
A protagonist lacking traditional heroic qualities, often feeling helpless.
Setting
The time and place in which the events of the plot take place.
Atmosphere/Mood
The feeling inspired in the reader, influenced by setting, characters, and events.
