Fresnel Spotlight
Uses a Fresnel lens to control and shape the beam, adjustable from spot to flood, with a soft-edged beam.
Ellipsoidal Spotlight
Produces a very defined, hard-edged beam using internal lenses and can project patterns with a cucalorus.
LED Light
Light-Emitting Diode; energy efficient, stays cooler, and is versatile, commonly used in video production.
UV / Fluorescent Light
Creates white light through UV light hitting phosphor; cooler than incandescent and used in permanent setups.
HMI Light
Hydrargyrum Medium-Arc Iodide; emits blue/UV light, requires a ballast, and is very powerful.
Scoop Light
Uses a scoop-shaped reflector without a lens, producing a wide, soft directional beam for large areas.
Softlight / Broadlight
Used for extremely diffused lighting, creating flat, shadowless light; broadlights have more output.
Strip / Cyc Light
Used to light cycloramas and backgrounds with a long box-shaped fixture containing multiple lamps.
