Sacred Heart

Symbol of Jesus’ divine love for humanity, often depicted as a flaming heart pierced by a crown of thorns.

Charism

A spiritual gift given for the good of the Church, such as teaching, healing, or prophecy. It is meant to build up the community of believers.

Reparation

Acts of love or sacrifice offered to make amends for sin. Reparation seeks to repair the damage caused by sin and restore relationship with God.

Blessed Clelia Merloni

Founder of the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, known for her devotion, perseverance, and holiness. She faced many challenges but remained steadfast in her faith and commitment to serving God and others.

Divine Revelation

God's self-disclosure through Scripture and Tradition. It is how God reveals Himself and His plan of salvation to humanity.

Covenant

Sacred promise between God and His people, establishing a relationship of love and fidelity. Examples include the covenant with Noah, Abraham, and Moses.

Pentateuch

The first five books of the Bible, also known as the Torah. They contain the foundational laws and stories of Israel.

Patriarch

Male leader of the faith (e.g., Abraham, Isaac, Jacob). They are considered founding fathers of the Israelite nation and played a key role in God's plan of salvation.

Passover

Commemorates God’s saving of Israelite firstborns from the tenth plague in Egypt. It is a central event in Jewish history and celebrates God's deliverance of His people from slavery.

Monotheism

Belief in one God, as opposed to polytheism (belief in many gods). This is a core belief of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.

Gospel

"Good news"; life and teachings of Jesus. The Gospels proclaim the message of salvation and the Kingdom of God.

Synoptic Gospels

Matthew, Mark, Luke (similar view). They share a common perspective on the life and teachings of Jesus.

Evangelists

Gospel writers: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. They each present a unique portrait of Jesus and His message.

Apostles

Followers chosen by Jesus to spread his teachings and establish the Church. They were the original witnesses to Jesus' life, death, and resurrection.

Midrash

A Jewish literary form that interprets Scripture by reimagining or retelling biblical events. It seeks to uncover deeper meanings and connect the text to contemporary life.

Ascension

Jesus’ return to Heaven 40 days after the Resurrection. It signifies the completion of Jesus' earthly mission and His exaltation to glory.

Pentecost

The descent of the Holy Spirit on the apostles; considered the birthday of the Church. It empowered the apostles to preach the Gospel and marks the beginning of the Church's mission to the world.

Council of Jerusalem

First Church council; settled the debate on whether Gentile converts needed to follow Jewish Law. It affirmed that salvation is open to all, regardless of their background.

Martyr

A person who is killed for their religious beliefs. Martyrs witness to their faith by their ultimate sacrifice.
