property of their commanders, their job in Gilead is to bear children for the commander and the commanders wife, wear red dresses with white wings to hide their faces. (ex: offered, ofglen)
wives
wear light blue, married to commanders {prior to Gilead formation}, older infertile women, they knit/sew/garden in free time, control tasks of the other women in their household (ex: Serena joy)
angels
soldiers fighting for Gilead, allowed to have guns, objects of fear, on step below commander (hope to become a commander one day), wear black as well
eyes
they watch out for people gossiping or talking badly about the society, undercover spies (ex: maybe Nick, maybe the doctor)
aunts
the teach the handmaid’s how to act and train them, manipulating the handmaids, aunts are older women who cannot bear children, seem to truly believe in Gilead, wear brown (ex: aunt Lydia, aunt Sara, aunt Elizabeth, aunt Helena)
Econowives
these women are wives of poorer men, wear striped dress (red, blue, green) this shows that they are responsible for all 3 roles (handmaid, Martha, wives)
marthas
they do all the chores and daily tasks in the house (cooking, buying food, cook, nanny), wear green, they love to gossip, help handmaid (ex: cora, Rita)
unwomen
women who cannot have children, women who rebel, unwomen are often sent to the colonies
guardians
work directly for commanders (drive them, wash their cars), lower class men (ex: Nick)

the city where it takes places, name of new society
the wall
this is where all those who have been caught going against society go and here they are hung and left up there for everyone to watch, rebels, source of fear and intimidation, surrounds gilead

labor camp, radioactive wasteland, rebels and are sent here to work and die, torture
