Pneumatics
The branch of technology that deals with the mechanical properties of gases, particularly compressed air, used for power systems within aircraft.
Engine Bleed Air (EBA)
Compressed air that is bled from the aircraft engines for use in the pneumatic system.
Auxiliary Power Unit (APU)
A device on an aircraft that provides energy for functions other than propulsion, often used to supply pneumatic power.
Cross-Bleed Valve
A valve that allows for the transfer of bleed air between the left and right pneumatic systems.
Precooler
A component that cools the engine bleed air before it enters the pneumatic system.
Trim Air
Heated air that is mixed with cool air from the air conditioning packs to regulate cabin temperature.
Cabin Pressurization
The process of maintaining a certain pressure within the aircraft cabin to ensure passenger comfort and safety at high altitudes.
Temperature Regulation
Control of the air temperature within the aircraft to maintain a comfortable environment for passengers.
Air Cycle Machine
A system that uses bleed air for temperature regulation, consisting of a compressor, turbine, and heat exchangers.
Bleed Valve
A valve used to regulate the amount of bleed air supplied to the pneumatic system, especially during varying engine speeds.
