Stopping Distance Factors
The distance required to stop a vehicle using control number 9, which is longer on wet roads, at higher speeds, and when the vehicle is loaded.
Temporary Road Sign
A sign implying that circumstances on the roadway are not normal for some reason.
Heavy Motor Vehicle Learner's Licence Requirement
The legal requirement that a licensed driver with the same driving licence category must accompany the learner in the vehicle.
Cell Phone Use Regulation
The rule stating a driver may not hold a cell phone with any part of the body while the vehicle is in motion.
Trailer Reflective Material
Yellow reflective material that must be fitted to the sides and the rear of trailers with a gross vehicle mass not exceeding 10000kg.
Safe Following Distance
A distance that allows a driver to stop safely in an emergency or if the vehicle in front slows down, often determined by the two second rule.
Freeway Tractor Restriction
Tractors are prohibited on freeways unless used in connection with the construction or maintenance of that freeway.
Stationary Position Responsibility
The duty of a driver moving off from the side of the road to ensure it is safe and will not interfere with approaching traffic from any direction.
Body Protrusion Rule
The regulation limiting body parts protruding beyond a vehicle only to the driver when giving a hand signal.
One Kilometer Obstruction Sign
A sign indicating to the driver that there are obstructions in the road for a distance of 1km.
Crossing a Public Road
Action permitted only when the road is clear of moving traffic for a sufficient distance to cross without obstructing or endangering others.
Accelerator
A vehicle control used specifically to increase or decrease the speed of a vehicle.
Excessive Noise Regulation
The law stating no person shall operate a vehicle on a public road in such a manner as to cause excessive noise.
Fuel Refilling Protocol
The driver must not cause or allow the engine to run while petrol or other inflammable fuel is being transferred to the fuel tank.
Articulated Vehicle Speed Limit
A maximum speed of 80km/h restricted to articulated motor vehicles where the gross combination mass of the truck-tractor exceeds 9000kg.
High Speed Exit Warning
A sign indicating that a high speed exit is 100meters ahead.
