Atom

Fundamental unit of matter.

Molecule

Chemical structure consist of at least two atoms.

Organelle

Structure having specific function in a cell.

Cell

The fundamental unit of life, forming the basis of all living organisms.

Tissue

A group of similar cells performing a specific function.

Organ

Composed of different tissues working together to carry out a specific task.

Organ System

A group of organs cooperating to perform a major body function.

Organism

An individual living thing, capable of independent function.

Population

A group of individuals of the same species living in the same area.

Community

All the different populations in a particular area.

Ecosystem

A community interacting with its physical environment.

Biosphere

The global system encompassing all living organisms and their interactions with the non-living environment.

Hooke

The scientist who discovered the cell while looking at cork and observed box-shaped structures.

Cell Theory Postulate 1

All living things are made of cells, from the smallest bacteria to the largest whale.

Cell Theory Postulate 2

The cell is the basic unit of life; they are the smallest units of structure and function that can carry out life processes.

Cell Theory Postulate 3

All cells come from pre-existing cells through division, not by spontaneous generation.

Laboratory Safety Guidelines

Standards that protect students against accidents, injuries, and exposure to hazardous materials.
