Oxygen Administration
The use of oxygen is indicated for most emergencies, with the exception of hyperventilation.
Hypoxemia
When the oxygen level in the blood is below normal.
Administering Oxygen
Increases blood oxygen levels and decreases a patient's effort to breathe.
Location of the Oxygen Tank in DH Clinic
Located on the south end of the clinic near the Panorex Machine.
Oxygen Cylinder
Stores the oxygen; portable tanks are GREEN.
Oxygen Outlet
Where the mask/tubing is attached.
Flow Meter
Regulates how much oxygen is delivered to the patient (liters per minute).
Pressure Gauge
Tells us how much oxygen is in the cylinder (closest to the cylinder).
Cylinder Pressure Gauge
Measures the oxygen pressure in the cylinder (pounds per square inch or psi).
Minimum Pressure for Operation
Must be above 500 psi for accurate operation.
Flow Meter Function
Regulates the amount of oxygen delivered to the patient (LPM).
Attaching Tubing
Located on the flow meter to attach tubing.
Cylinder Pressure Gauge Reading
Indicates the amount of oxygen in the cylinder.
Flow Meter Level
Should be adjusted to a level of 8-12 LPM.
Facemask Placement
Placed over the bridge of the patient’s nose, pinch slightly to ensure a snug fit.
Turning off Oxygen Unit
Close the oxygen release valve and adjust the flow meter gauge to the off position.
Mask and Tubing Disposal
Dispose of in the biohazard container in the clinic.
Documenting Oxygen Administration
LPM (how much) and # of minutes (how long).
