List the 4 types of animal tissue and name one function of each.

  1. Epithelial → (lines the innermost layer of the digestive tract/arteries)

  2. Connective → (fills internal spaces and provides support structure for bodies)

  3. Muscle → (propels substances along the digestive tract)

  4. Nervous → (directs and stimulates movement and secretions in the digestive tract)

What is homeostasis and how are fluctuations in a system returned to the set point?

  • Homeostasis is an organisms tendency to maintain steady state or by having an internal balance regardless of change and the environments condition.

  • Fluctuations is returned to the set point by the “negative feedback loop,” it reverses that pushed the system away from being balanced.

New cards

Why do flatworms lack a circulatory system while slugs have one?

  • Flatworms lack a circulatory system causing them to be extremely thin

  • Whereas slugs they are extremely thick, causing them to be more complex animals that require a circulatory system to pump oxygen and nutrients to the heart and blood vessel’s.

New cards

Describe the difference between open and closed circulation and give an example of an animal for each.

  • Difference is open circulation uses less energy, closed circulation uses more energy

Example of an Animal:

  • Open Circulation (arthropods, echinoderms, most molluscs)

  • Closed Circulation (earthworms, squid, octopuses, cats, dogs, whales)
