1
New cards

List an examples of practitioners you will typically refer a client to and give an example of why you would refer

Nutritionist – skin concerns may be linked to poor diet or nutritional deficiencies.

2
New cards

List 2 Effects (immediate) of Desincrustation

Softens and emulsifies sebum

3
New cards

List 2 Benefits (Long term) of Desincrustation

  • Reduces blackheads and congestion

  • Helps control excess sebum production

4
New cards

What is the duration of the electrotherapy steps (how many minutes)

desincrustation 6 mins, reversal 3 mins

5
New cards

List 2 effects (immediate) of Iontophoresis

  • Increases penetration of active ingredients.

  • Stimulates cell activity.

6
New cards

List 2 Benefits (Long term) of Iontophoresis

  • Improves skin hydration over time.

  • Enhances skin texture and overall skin health

7
New cards

lontophoresis

What skin types, conditions and other factors that are suited to this treatment.

dry or dehydrated, mature, sensitive

8
New cards

lontophoresis

Describe the factors that may impact or affect the suitability of the treatment for the client.

  • pacemaker

  • epilepsy

9
New cards

List 1 Effects (immediate) of Sonophoresis

Increases skin permeability

10
New cards

List 2 Benefits (Long term) of Sonophoresis

  • Improves skin hydration

  • Improves skin texture and elasticity

11
New cards

What skin types, conditions and other factors that are suited to Sonophoresis.

dry, mature fine lines, dull skin

12
New cards

Sonophoresis

Describe the factors that may impact or affect the suitability of the treatment for the client.

Pacemaker or implanted electronic devices,

Cancer or suspected malignancy.

13
New cards

What is static electricity?

build-up of electrical charges on the surface of an object caused by friction or contact between materials.

14
New cards

Define Electrical Energy

energy produced by the movement of electric charges (electrons) through a conductor, such as a wire.

15
New cards

Electricity is a flow of

electrons

16
New cards

Frequency is the amount of oscillations per second of energy in the form of

waves

17
New cards

List 3 safety precautions for an Ultrasonic /Sonophoresis device.

Do not pass over the thyroid area or over swollen glands

Do not use inside the orbital bone of the eye area

Keep the skin very moist

18
New cards

Describe the mechanical effect when ultrasonic is applied to the skin:

ultrasonic waves create microscopic vibrations that gently massage the tissues and increase skin permeability

19
New cards

Why is the skin barrier important in ultrasonic application?

It protects the skin while allowing active ingredients to penetrate safely.

20
New cards

Explain the polarity of the active electrode and the polarity of the ampoule/serum during iontophoresis.

The active electrode and the ampoule/serum must have the same polarity (like repels like) so the active ingredients are pushed into the skin.

21
New cards

Explain why it is important to restore the pH balance during desincrustation.

To restore the skin's natural acid mantle, reduce irritation, and protect the skin.

22
New cards

Explain how the pH balance is restored during desincrustation?

reversing the electrode to a positive anode

23
New cards

Who states the polarity of the ampoules / serums?

the manufactor

24
New cards

a or b

both b

25
New cards

A. Describe what an adverse reaction looks like?

B. What is the appropriate remedial action?

apply a soothing antiseptic cream

26
New cards

alcohol consumption

Drinking less alcohol and replacing fluids with water helps maintain skin hydration

27
New cards

exercise routine

Exercise regularly to increase blood circulation, delivering oxygen and nutrients to the skin, reducing stress, and promoting healthier, brighter skin.

28
New cards

hobbies

Enjoy hobbies to reduce stress and improve wellbeing, which can lower inflammation and support healthier skin.

29
New cards

sleeping pattern

Get 7–9 hours of sleep so the skin can repair itself, produce collagen, and reduce dullness, dark circles, and puffiness.

30
New cards

employment

Stay hydrated and moisturise, as air conditioning and heating can dry out the skin and cause dehydration.

31
New cards

effects and benefits clear balance ampule

  • Helps reduce excess sebum

  • Purifies and decongests pores

32
New cards

iontophersis What is the duration of the electrotherapy steps (how many minutes)

15 min with 7 min return

33
New cards

Sonophoresis

What is the duration of the electrotherapy steps (how many minutes)

5 min face, 1 min per eye

34
New cards

Explain why it is important to restore the pH balance during desincrustation.

Skin in alkaline state so we need to normal ph 4.5-5.5

35
New cards

A. Describe what an adverse reaction looks like?

B. What is the appropriate remedial action?

imidiate - appy dry sterile dressing

36
New cards

desincrustation sequence

Apply clear balance ampule

Apply conducting gel in thick layer

Put damp sponge around return and put under shoulder

Put damp cotton pad and gauze around desincrustaiton tip

Turn machine on, set it to negative for 7 minutes

Touch the skin with cathode before starting machine

Do slow circles around the face

Lift off cathode once 7 mins it up

Remove conducting gel, remove cotton pad and gauze

Put new conducting gel on in thin layer

Put new cotton pad and gauze on

Set machine to positive for 3 mins

More circles on skin with anode

37
New cards

iontophresis sequence

Apply anti-redness or collagen and elastin factor ampule
apply thin layer of conducting gel

Put damp sponge around return and put under shoulder

Set the machine to negative for 15 minutes, 3 energy

Touch skin with the cathode before starting the machine

Slowly roll around on face neck and dec

Once finished remove cathode

Set the machine to positive for 7 mins

Roll around slowly with anode

38
New cards

sonophoresis sequence

Apply serum/moisturiser thickly to the skin

With the spatula flat side down and flush to the skin. Test along the jawline if necessary.

Apply slow superficial stokes over the forehead and cheeks working medial to lateral.

Apply 10 passes to allow product to penetrate – forehead, outer cheeks, inner cheeks, nose, between the eyes, chin, neck and decollete.
