Which ayah of Surah al-Fatiha does the whole Qur’an respond to?

Ayah 5:

إِيَّاكَ نَعْبُدُ وَإِيَّاكَ نَسْتَعِينُ ٥ —> You ˹alone˺ we worship and You ˹alone˺ we ask for help.

Surah al-Baqarah mentions that to be among those whom Allah has favoured, you need to have Emaan (loving Allah), Islam (submittion to Allah), perform the vision, Infaaq and Jihad.

You don't just perform it but also reflect on what you are saying, doing and are cautious in performing Salah properly.

1. Zakah or,

2. Sadaqah of all types

(whether it is Waajib or Mustahab)

What does is mean to believe in the Akhirah?

To believe the righteous will be rewarded, the sinners will be punished, our deeds will be weighed etc. and all that Allah has promised will happen on the Day of Judgement. If you believe in it with certainty, then you will prepare for it by doing righteous actions and staying away from haram.

What are the 5 characteristics of the Manafiqun (Hypocrites)?

1. They say they believe with their tongues but they don't believe in their hearts.

2. The hypocrites try to deceive Allah by hiding the kufr inside of them, but in reality they are deceiving themselves.

3. Allah increases the hypocrites in a sickness in their hearts.

4. The hypocrites cause corruption on the Earth.

5. They say that the Sahabah are fools.

How do the hypocrites spread corruption?

By disobeying, pretending to be Muslims with their kufr and are taking the disbelievers as their allies. They claim that the corruption they are spreading is good. So in conclusion they are the true troublemakers.

What do the hypocrites say when they are told to ‘‘believe like the companions believed’’ ?

They say, ‘‘should we believe like the fools believed?’’ They described the companions as being fools.

What are the characteristics of a disbeliever?

1. They never believe not even if you warn them.

2. Allah has sealed their hearts and hearing, their sight is covered.

Iblis

Who are the Bani Israel?

The descendants of Prophet Yaqub (his other name is Israel).

NOTE: The Bani Israel are those who have earned Allah’s wrath/anger.

Your house will be protected by Allah.

What are three favours shown to the Bani Israel?

1. At a time, there was no water available but then, Allah told Musa to strike a rock and a dozen springs came from it: one spring for one group/tribe of people.

2. They were saved from Fir’awn and his people who died in a flood.

3. Allah gave the Children of Israel Manna (a food) and Salwah (a quail-like bird) to eat when there was no food available for them.

What are 3 crimes committed by the Bani Israel?

1. They worshiped a golden cow (built by Simiri) in the absence of Musa.

2. The Children of Israel killed Zakariyah, his son (Yahyah) and attempted to murder Isa.

3. They broke the Sabbath by fishing on a Saturday, and at that time, Saturdays were for worship ONLY.

What is the story of the cow in brief terms?

(This is also a favour Allah had bestowed upon Bani Israel)

When a man murdered another, the Children of Israel were accusing others for the crime. Then Allah told them to slaughter any cow and put its meat on the corpse. After excessive questioning by the Bani Israel of which cow to slaughter, they put the meat on the dead body. The corpse then awoke and told them who had murdered him.

What is Salah?

Linguistic Definition: Comes from the word صلي . Which means to seek warmth, it also comes from the root word صلو. Which means to pray/worship. 

Islamic Definition: To pray 5 times a day in which we can ask Allah for help or guidance.

What is Jihad?

To struggle or go against something or someone (such as Shaytaan).

What is the punishment for selective obedience?

Disgrace in this life and the torment on the Day of Resurrection.

What are the main points discussed in ayaat 1 - 141 (Surah al-Baqarah)?

What is a lesson to be taken from the concluding Ayah of Juz 1?

Both groups (Children of Israel and this Ummah) will be accountable and responsible for their own actions. The Children of Israel were one party which is gone now and we should focus on our own deeds. Their consequence in the hereafter is for them and we have our own.

What is meant by ‘Infaaq’ ?

to spend your money, time, effort, senses, etc. for the cause of Allah (such as learning or teaching Islam).

To conclude, it tells the muslim Ummah that the Ummah before is gone, and it's up to you to follow in their footsteps and be among the group which angered Allah or stay with the prophet SallAllahu alaihi wa sallam and be rewarded in the akhirah.

What is Shahadah alan-Naas (the vision)?

To bear witness on the Day of Judgement that we have conveyed the message to mankind (after the prophets).

What is Kufr?

Linguistic Definition: Comes from the word كَفَرَ which means he covered. So, Kufr is to cover, hide or be ungrateful.

Islamic Definition: To disbelieve in Allah or the messengers or the Akhirah, etc.

What is Emaan?

Linguistic Definition: Comes from the word أَمِنَ. Emaan means reliable, trustworthy, faithful or to feel safe.

Islamic Definition: To believe in what the Messenger SallAllahu alayhi wa sallam brought.

What is meant by the word ‘Wahy’ ?

Linguistic Definition: This means to inspire or to reveal/ give an idea.

Islamic Definition: The guidance Allah sends to his messengers through an angel, a dream, speaking to Allah or he plants an idea in their head.
