PC 148 | Resisting/Obstructing Officer
Willfully resisting, delaying, or obstructing any public officer, peace officer, or EMT in the discharge of duties. Max Penalty: 1 year in county jail.
PC 187 | Murder
The unlawful killing of a human being, or a fetus, with malice aforethought. Max Penalty: Death penalty or Life Without Possibility of Parole (LWOP).
PC 192 | Manslaughter
The unlawful killing of a human being without malice aforethought. Includes voluntary (heat of passion), involuntary (criminal negligence), and vehicular. Max Penalty: 11 years state prison.
PC 207 | Kidnapping
Forcibly, or by fear, stealing or taking any person and carrying them into another country, state, or county. Max Penalty: 8 years (simple) or LWOP (aggravated).
PC 211 | Robbery
Felonious taking of personal property in the possession of another, from their person, against their will, by force or fear. Max Penalty: 9 years state prison for 1st degree.
PC 215 | Carjacking
Taking a motor vehicle from another person against their will with intent to temporarily or permanently deprive, by force or fear. Max Penalty: 9 years state prison.
PC 217.1 | Assault on Public Official
Assault upon specified public officials in retaliation for their official duties. Max Penalty: 4 years state prison.
PC 240 | Assault
An unlawful attempt, coupled with a present ability, to commit a violent injury on the person of another. Max Penalty: 6 months county jail.
PC 242 | Battery
Any willful and unlawful use of force or violence upon the person of another. Max Penalty: 6 months county jail.
PC 243 | Battery on Peace Officer
Battery on a peace officer, firefighter, EMT, or other specified personnel while performing duties, with knowledge of status. Max Penalty: 3 years state prison if injury occurs.
PC 243.4 | Sexual Battery
Touching an intimate part of another, against their will, for sexual arousal, gratification, or abuse. Max Penalty: 4 years state prison.
PC 245(a)(1) | ADW – Deadly Weapon
Assault with a deadly weapon (other than a firearm), or by force likely to produce great bodily injury. Max Penalty: 4 years state prison.
PC 245(a)(2) | ADW – Firearm
Assault upon another person with a firearm. Max Penalty: 4 years state prison.
PC 261 | Rape
Non-consensual sexual intercourse by force, threat, fraud, intoxication, or incapacity to consent. Max Penalty: 8 years plus sex registration.
PC 273.5 | DV – Corporal Injury
Willful infliction of corporal injury resulting in a traumatic condition upon a spouse, cohabitant, or parent of one\'s child. Max Penalty: 4 years state prison.
PC 273.6 | Violating Protective Order
Intentional and knowing violation of a domestic violence protective or stay-away order. Max Penalty: Ranges from 1 year in county jail to 3 years in prison.
PC 288 | Lewd Acts on a Child
Lewd or lascivious act upon/with the body of a child under 14 years old, with intent to arouse or gratify sexual desire. Max Penalty: 8 years plus sex registration.
PC 314 | Indecent Exposure
Willfully and lewdly exposing one\'s person or private parts in public, where others are present. Max Penalty: 6 months for the 1st offense.
PC 368 | Elder/Dependent Abuse
Willfully causing a person 65+ or a dependent adult to suffer unjustifiable pain, suffering, or endangerment. Max Penalty: 4 years state prison.
PC 415 | Disturbing the Peace
Unlawfully fighting, making unreasonable noise, or using offensive words in public likely to provoke immediate violence. Max Penalty: 90 days county jail.
PC 417 | Brandishing a Weapon
Drawing or exhibiting any deadly weapon in a rude, angry, or threatening manner, or using it in a fight. Max Penalty: 1 year county jail for misdemeanor.
PC 422 | Criminal Threats
Willful threat to commit a crime causing death or Great Bodily Injury (GBI), with specific intent to be taken as a threat, causing sustained fear. Max Penalty: 3 years state prison.

Willfully and maliciously setting fire to, burning, or causing to be burned any structure, forest land, or property. Max Penalty: 9 years state prison.
PC 459 | Burglary
Entering any structure with intent to commit a felony or theft therein (1st degree: inhabited; 2nd degree: all others). Max Penalty: 6 years state prison for 1st degree.
PC 470 | Forgery
Signing another\'s name or falsifying documents, checks, or instruments with intent to defraud. Max Penalty: 3 years state prison.
PC 484 / 488 | Petty Theft
Fraudulent appropriation of property of another without consent, where the value is $950 or less. Max Penalty: 6 months county jail.
PC 487 | Grand Theft
Theft of property exceeding $950, or theft of a firearm, or theft directly from a person, or vehicle theft. Max Penalty: 3 years state prison.
PC 496 | Receiving Stolen Property
Buying, receiving, concealing, or selling stolen property, knowing it to be stolen. Max Penalty: 3 years state prison.
PC 503 | Embezzlement
Fraudulent appropriation of entrusted property, with intent to defraud the owner. Max Penalty: 3 years state prison.
PC 530.5 | Identity Theft
Willfully obtaining another\'s personal identifying information and using it for any unlawful purpose without consent. Max Penalty: 3 years state prison.
PC 537 | Defrauding an Innkeeper
Obtaining food, fuel, services, or lodging with intent to defraud the establishment. Max Penalty: 6 months county jail if under $950.
PC 594 | Vandalism
Maliciously defacing, damaging, or destroying real or personal property belonging to another. Max Penalty: 3 years state prison if damage exceeds $400.
PC 597 | Animal Cruelty
Maliciously maiming, torturing, or wounding a living animal, or maliciously killing an animal. Max Penalty: 3 years state prison.
PC 602 | Trespassing
Entering and occupying real property or structures of another without consent or permission. Max Penalty: 6 months county jail.
PC 626.10 | Weapons on School Grounds
Bringing or possessing a dirk, dagger, or knife with a blade greater than 2.5 inches on school grounds or connected buildings. Max Penalty: 3 years state prison.
PC 647(a) | Lewd Conduct in Public
Soliciting or engaging in lewd or dissolute conduct in a public place or exposed to public view. Max Penalty: 6 months county jail.
PC 647(b) | Prostitution/Solicitation
Engaging in, agreeing to engage in, or soliciting prostitution for money or compensation. Max Penalty: 6 months county jail.
PC 647(f) | Drunk in Public
Being in a public place while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, unable to care for own safety or obstructing a public way. Max Penalty: 6 months county jail.
PC 647(h) | Prowling
Prowling or loitering on private property of another without visible or lawful business with the owner. Max Penalty: 6 months county jail.
PC 664/187 | Attempted Murder
A direct but ineffectual act toward committing murder, with specific intent to kill. Max Penalty: Life with possibility of parole.
PC 666 | Petty Theft with Prior
Petty theft committed by a person with a prior conviction for theft, embezzlement, robbery, or burglary who served time or probation. Max Penalty: 3 years state prison.
PC 836 | Lawful Arrest Authority
Authority statute specifying that a peace officer may arrest without a warrant on probable cause for a felony, or a public offense committed in the officer\'s presence.
PC 837 | Citizen's Arrest
Authority statute specifying that a private person may arrest another for a public offense in their presence, or for a felony not in their presence.
PC 853.6 | Notice to Appear (NTA)
Procedural statute where a peace officer may issue a written notice to appear for misdemeanor violations in lieu of arrest.
PC 476a | NSF Check
Willfully drawing or passing a check with knowledge of insufficient funds and intent to defraud. Max Penalty: 3 years state prison if over $950.
PC 11350 | Possession of Controlled Substance
Unlawful possession of a controlled substance (cocaine, heroin, etc.) without a valid prescription. Max Penalty: 3 years state prison.
PC 11351 | Possession for Sale (CS)
Possessing a controlled substance with intent to sell, or purchasing for the purpose of sale. Max Penalty: 4 years state prison.
PC 11352 | Sale/Transport of CS
Transporting, importing, selling, furnishing, administering, or giving away a controlled substance. Max Penalty: 9 years state prison.
PC 11377 | Possession of Meth/Stimulants
Unlawful possession of methamphetamine, amphetamine, or other specified stimulants without a valid prescription. Max Penalty: 3 years state prison.
PC 11550 | Under Influence of CS
Being in a public place while under the influence of a controlled substance with symptoms of intoxication present. Max Penalty: 1 year county jail.
PC 12020 | Prohibited Weapons
Manufacturing, importing, selling, giving, or possessing specified prohibited weapons (such as short-barrel or undetectable weapons). Max Penalty: 3 years state prison.
PC 12022.5 | Firearm Use Enhancement
Sentence enhancement for personal use of a firearm in the commission of a felony or attempted felony. Max Penalty: +10 years added to base sentence.
