Describe the advantages of hydrogen as a fuel.

Hydrogen is a very clean fuel - in a hydrogen fuel cell, only hydrogen and oxygen react to produce energy, and the only waste product is water. Hydrogen is obtained from water, which is a renewable source.

Describe the disadvantages of hydrogen as a fuel.

The special engine required to use hydrogen as fuel is very expensive. Hydrogen gas needs to be manufactured, which is expensive and often uses energy from another source - this energy often comes from burning fossil fuels, which produces pollutants. Hydrogen is also a highly flammable gas, so is hard to store safely. It is also not widely available so is more expensive to purchase than regular fuels.
