Atmosphere
The thick blanket of air that envelopes the planet and helps sustain life.
Kármán Line
An imaginary line at approximately 100 km height, considered the boundary of Earth's atmosphere.
Troposphere
The closest layer to the Earth's surface where we live, containing 75% of atmospheric gases and where all weather phenomena occur.
Functions of the atmosphere
Includes absorbing UV radiation, keeping the Earth's surface warm, and containing essential gases for respiration and photosynthesis.
Air
The mixture of gases found in the atmosphere essential for respiration and photosynthesis.
Altitude effects on atmosphere
An increase in altitude results in decreased density and temperature of the atmosphere.
Weather Phenomena
Includes cloud formation, winds, rainfall, and snowfall, all of which occur in the troposphere.
Temperature decrease rate in the troposphere
The temperature decreases at about 6.5°C per kilometer as altitude increases.
Breathlessness at high altitudes
Caused due to the decrease in pressure, moisture content, and density of air as altitude increases.
Layers of the atmosphere
Divided into five layers: troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere, thermosphere, and exosphere.
