  1. discriminate - between irrational (self-defeating) versus rational (adaptive) beliefs

  2. detect irrational beliefs - (e.g., “shoulds”, “musts”, “awfulizing)

  3. debate dysfunctional beliefs - by logically, empirically (what’s the evidence?), and pragmatically questioning them - “I want it, therefore I must have it.”
