Why we engage with customers and give an example.
Promote water safety and demonstrate the facilitys commitment to safety. Remind a childs caregiver to keep a closer eye on them.
What are we expected to do to upkeep facilitys hygiene and maintenance
General cleaning, floors, windows, toilets showers. Can change depending on facilitys NOP.
How do we manage equipment
Check conditions of pool and rescue equipment as part of day to day operations. Record and report any damaged equipment.
List the responsibilities of the lead responder.
Evaluate the situation, make a quick descion about the most appropriate course of action. Delegate tasks. Ensure response complies with NOP.
List the signs of a struggling swimmer
Semi-vertical position, looks anxious or concerned, facing inteded direction, usually able to call out and follow directions.
Describe hazard and risk management
The process of identifying hazards and risks. Then eleminate or minimise them as much as possible.
Give an example of an unusual behaviour and how you would superise them
Child wandering pool without an obvious supervising adult. Monitor child closely and locate caregiver and remind them of supervisor requirements.
Why do we have supervisor ratios
To ensure there are enough lifeguards available to effectevlty observe and respond to all areas of the pool.
How does positioning keep customers safe
Standing upright posture keeps you more alert and ready for action at any time
How does patrolling keep customers safe
Allows you to communicate with customers, avoid dead water and identify and respond with incidents faster.
How does scanning keep customer safe.
Scanning an area in 10 seconds allows 20 seconds response time. Allows continuous observation of all aspects of the pool and environment. To quickly identify risks and incidents.
What info is provided on a rotation
Any areas of reduced visability. Current hazards or risks. Higher risk individuals.
Why do we provide info on rotations
Prevents loss of situational awareness and ensures smooth continuation of observation.
Describe a higher risk activity
Diving boards. The increased height and force has inherent risk, deeper water and potential for incorrect technique.
Why do supervise this higher risk activity.
Supervision to prevent collisions, ready for immediate response to an incident. This minimises the hazard.
