Scalpel

A sharp blade used for cutting tissues in surgery.

Blade handle

A tool that attaches the scalpel, used to hold when cutting tissue

Mayo Scissors

A blunt pair of scissors used for cutting thicker tissues like bones and fat

Metzenbaum Scissors

A long, thin pair of scissors used for separating thin tissues

Suture Scissors

A pair of scissors used for removing sutures, has a circular edge at the end

Bandage Scissors

An angled pair of scissors with a blunt end, used to remove and cut away bandages

Mayo - Hegar needle holders

A needle holder that cannot cut sutures, used for larger needles

Olsen - Hegar needle holders

A needle holder that can cut sutures, used for smaller needles

Towel clamp

A tool with hooks at the end that hold surgical towels in place, the small hooks partially attach into the skin

Spay hook

A long tool with a hook on the end used to remove uterine horns during a spay

Allis forceps

A pair of scissors with interlocking teeth at the end, used to grab intestinal tissues

Rat tooth forceps

A pair of forceps with teeth at the end, used for holding thick tissues

Adson forceps

A pair of forceps with small grooves on the end, used for holding delicate tissues

Kelly hemostat

Used for clamping blood vessels, has horizontal serrations on the end of the clamp

Carmalt hemostat

Used for clamping blood vessels, has vertical serrations on the end of the clamp

Hohmann retractor

Used as leverage during surgeries, handheld and flat

Balfour retractor

A retracting mechanism with two loops and a retractor blade, used for abdominal surgeries

Gelpi retractor

Self retracts during a surgery, has sharp points on the ends

Bone drill

A tool used to drill bone tunnels for surgery

Stifle retractor

A tool used to slightly pull back the femur and the tibia, to expose the stifle joint

Meniscal probe

A tool used to assess the meniscus and soft tissue

Stifle thruster

A tool that allows a better view of the ACL and meniscus

Tightrope tensioner

A tool that allows you to tighten or create tension on the tightrope suture

Bone saw

A tool used to cut through bone during surgery

Suture stabilization tightrope

The tightrope that’s used with the tightrope tensioner to stabilize the knee

Trochlear rasp

used to file and shape the patellar groove

Bone pins / plates

a tool used to hold the tibial crest in position to allow the femoral groove to align

Pin cutter

used to cut the excess pin piece down to the right size

Fixator connecting bar

A tool that connects fixator clamps together

Fixator clamps

A tool used to help hold bone fragments together

Bone chisel and mallet

a tool used to cut, refine, or remove bone
