Cultural landscape: listen buildings from Georgian era, also Tudor buildings, many different hotels, theatres and tea rooms.

In the past 100 years Margate declined in tourism and increased again with the opening of the Turner gallery creating lots of economic activity helping other businesses double their revenue and new businesses to thrive - cultural lead regeneration.

Gang violence prevalent in the 60s and 80s.

Angell Town

1960s gov policy led to the destruction of victorian slum housing and newer houses were built. This had problems - estates were facing inwards, socially isolated/landlocked, little public space, very deprived areas.

This led to an increase in violent crime.

BAME = 62% of population.

Urban design changes - terraced houses, garages replaced (stopping antisocial behaviour).

Cuts to social spending = no youth centres = crime, gangs and antisocial behaviour.

Football pitch funded to help this - costly
