Peterson & Peterson procedure
tested 24 students in 8 trials. at each trial the student was given a consonant syllable and a 3 digit number. They counted backwards from a number until told to stop and recall the consonant and 3 numbers. Stopped at 3,6,9,12,15, or 18 seconds, varying at each trial
