What is electric current?
The flow of charge per unit time.
What is the equation for current?
Current= change in charge/change in time I=Q/t
What is the unit for charge?
Coulumbs.
What is the unit for current?
Amperes/Amps (A)
What is conventional current?
The flow of positive charge, from the positive terminal of a cell to the negative terminal. This is opposite to the direction of electron flow, in reality electrons flow from the negative terminal to the positive terminal.
How is current measured?
Using ammeters, these must be placed in series with the component they're measuring.
What is 1 amp equal to?
1 coulumb per second.
What is potential difference?
The energy transferred per unit charge between two points in a circuit.
What is the equation for potential difference?
Potential difference= energy transferred/charge V=W/Q
What is the unit for potential difference?
Volts (V)
What can potential difference be measured with?
A voltmeter, this must be placed in parallel with the component being measured.
What is resistance?
A measure of how difficult it is for charge carriers to pass through a component.
What is the equation for resistance?
Resistance=voltage/current R=V/I
What is the unit for resistance?
Ohms (Ω)
The higher the resistance…
the lower the current that can flow.
