When was the Quebec Act?
June 1774
What did it try to solve?
It was an ill-timed effort to solve the problem of governing the French inhabitants of Canada that was seen by Americans as confirmation of evil British designs.
What did the act do?
it placed authority in the hands of a governor without an elected assembly and limited trial by jury.
What did it suggest to the colonists?
Britain intended to put the whole of North America under authoritarian forms of government. Moreover, the extension of the Quebec boundary south and west to the Ohio and Mississippi looked like an attempt to check westward expansion by the thirteen original colonies.
