Proclamation Act
An act that stopped colonists from settling west of the Appalachian Mountains (the line that they were not allowed to cross was called the Proclamation Line)

for the British to earn all monetary gain from land deals pass the Proc. Line
Declaratory Act

a replacement for the Molasses Act
Stamp Act

ex: playing cards, legal documents, etc.
What was the Stamp Act Congress?
a meeting of colonists where they tried to figure out how to get rid of the act
What is the effect of the Stamp Act Congress on England?
England realizes that the colonists are starting to band together and work against them, so they repeal the Stamp Act
Townsend Revenue Act
forced colonists to pay taxes on goods imported from England
they used to get goods from england for free
these taxes were SMALL compared to taxes imposed on other GB colonies
Why did the townshend rev. act make the colonists upset?
it was seen as a “for profit act”
they were getting taxed without getting represented in the GB government
taxation w/out representation
Currency Act
all the money in the colonies had to switch to be British pounds
aka Britain controls the value of the currency
Benefit of the Currency Act
originally, all colonies used their own form of currency —→ led to the smaller colonies being unable to keep up with the bigger colonies currencies
Britain evened the playing field for smaller colonies economically
Tea Act
GB lowered the price on their own East India Tea and kept the tax on everyone else’s teas
essentially GB trying to make their own goods seem more favorable to buy for the colonies
Colonies reaction to Tea Act
they felt that GB was trying to monopolize the tea business through them
colonists dressed as native americans and threw the tea into the river as protest (Boston Tea Party)
Boston Port Act
England shut down the port in Boston to punish the colonists for the Boston Tea Party
Consequence for GB from the Boston Port Act
GB lost money since they closed one of the biggest ports that allowed the trade of their goods
Massachusetts Government Act
GB shut down the system of government in Boston
the government wouldn’t turn in the criminals who had thrown the tea into the river to the British
Administration of Justice Act:
passed to punish the colonies for the Boston Tea Party
said that officials could grab people accused of capital offense and put them on trial somewhere OTHER than massachusetts
Other name for Administration of Justice Act
George Washington called it the murder act
first time GDUBS gets seen in a positive light
Quebec Act:
GB gives Quebec to France for French Control
Quebec alr had French influence (and religious french ppl)
What did the Quebec Act signify for the colonies?
it was GB saying, “I would rather side with my biggest enemy and give them land than side with my own colony”
Quartering Act I (1765):
said that England could come onto the colonist’s land and take whatever they wanted (including your food, your land, etc.)
was written poorly and therefore interpreted this way
Reaction and response to Quartering Act I
colonists were outraged
England had to hold a meeting saying they were wrong and that the British crown messed up
this was big because the British Crown is NEVER wrong
Quartering Act II (1774):
Housing of soldiers ONLY required during times of war
(think amendment #3 for US)
