Primary Source

An original source of information about a topic (e.g., study, artifact, data set, interview, article)

Secondary Source

A commentary about one or more primary sources that provides additional insight, opinions, and/or interpretation about the primary source data, study, or artifacts

Complex Issue

Issue involving many facets or perspectives that must be understood in order to address it

Context

the circumstances that form the setting for an event, statement, or idea, and in terms of which it can be fully understood and assessed.

Deductive

is the process of reasoning from one or more statements to reach a logical conclusion.

Evidence

Information (e.g., data, quotations, excerpts from texts) used as proof to support a claim or thesis

Inductive

a type of logical thinking that involves forming generalizations based on specific incidents you've experienced, observations you've made, or facts you know to be true or false.

Line of reasoning

A type of reasoning that presents cases or evidence that lead to a logical conclusion

Rebuttal

a refutation or contradiction.

Refutation

the action of proving a statement or theory to be wrong or false.

Qualitative

having to do with text or descriptions

Quantitative

Having to do with numbers amount or quantities

Reliability

the extent to which something can be trusted to be accurate

Assumption

a belief regarded as true and often unstated

Lens

filter through which an issue or topic is considered or examined

Limitation

a boundary or point at which an argument or generalization is no longer valid

Resolution

the act of solving a problem or dispute scaffolding the provision of temporary structure support for students to aid skill development

Solution

a means of answering a question or addressing a problem or issue

Accuracy/Validity

the extent to which an argument or claim is logical

Concession

acknowledgment and acceptance of an opposing or different view

Inquiry

process for seeking truth, information or knowledge through a study research investigation or artistic endeavor / work

Relevance

the quality or state of being closely connected or appropriate.

Currency

the fact or quality of being generally accepted or in use.

Authority

a person or organization having power or control in a particular, typically political or administrative, sphere.
