what were the main classes of the middle ages
nobles - men fight and women look after the house/castle
clergy - the only people that can read
peasantry - most people are here, they live in small spaces and were controlled

how did the architecture change throughout the medieval period and why were they changing or used?
11th century - Romanesque style (Roman Catholic), curved and intricate - focused on god
12th century - gothic style, moving away from roman catholic and exploring earthly rewards and realism
how was music played and viewed in the medieval period
music was from the church and fro the church, only boys could sing in the monasteries. girls only sang in monesteries and nun’s could sing
Hildegard of Bingen wrote songs for the monasteries. but only church was written
almost all music was vocal and pronounced. lyrics were focused on meaning not emotion
why were organs and bells not used
because they were used in pagen rites so clergies claimed that they distracted singers, but they were used on feast days
