• stores it or sues it to make decisions about the appropriate action

(function) generates a motor response

• determines and generates appropriate motor responses by activating effectors

  • effectors = muscle and glands

• Glue that holds nervous system together (role is more important than that)

• Many different types w/ slightly diff. roles

• Nourish, protect, insulate and structurally neurons
