Define the Term Video Map

An electronically displayed map on the radar display that may depict data such as airports, heliports, runway centerline extensions, hospital emergency landing areas, NAVAIDs and fixes, reporting points, airway/route centerlines, boundaries, handoff points, special use tracks, obstructions, prominent geographic features, map alignment indicators, range accuracy marks, and/or minimum vectoring altitudes.

Define an Emergency Obstruction Video Map

A specialized radar display overlay used by FAA Air Traffic Control. It highlights prominent man-made obstacles and terrain elevations to help controllers provide safe navigation vectors to pilots experiencing emergencies in areas of mountainous terrain.

Discuss the service limitations when radar mapping is not available

1. Separating identified aircraft targets

2. Vectoring aircraft to intercept a PAR final approach course.

3. Providing radar service in areas that ensure no confliction with traffic on airways, other ATC areas of jurisdiction, restricted or prohibited areas, terrain, etc.

b. EN ROUTE. When the position symbol associated with the full data block falls more than one history behind the actual aircraft target or there is no target symbol displayed, the Mode C information in the full data block must not be used for the purpose of determining separation.

c. Report radar malfunctions immediately for corrective action and for dispatch of

a Notice to Airmen. Advise adjacent ATC facilities when appropriate.

Discuss how new or modified digital maps are verified for accuracy

Through the use of "targets of opportunity" flying over displayed fixes or navigational aids. (T-1) Document any observed discrepancies to indicate the observed direction and displacement. If any identified error cannot be corrected or if a facility is otherwise dissatisfied with the results from "targets of opportunity," request a flight check if necessary.

Who coordinates with DoD Operations Support Facility (OSF) to create and maintain video maps

The designated NAAM must coordinate with appropriate OSF to create and maintain video maps as directed by the CCTLR

The CCTLR must ensure video maps are created, uploaded, and maintained.

State the RADAR map requirements for NAC/SAC:

·        4 LUF Diverse Vectoring Area (DVA) (Isolation Area) map must be displayed.

·        GYR/GEU DVA map must be displayed when being utilized.

·        LUF Extended Runway Centerlines Map must be displayed for appropriate

·        Runway in use. The 21R/03L extended runway centerline map will be displayed when the

·        Outside runway is in use due to an inside runway closure.

·        ZEPER Map must be displayed anytime the ZEPER corridor is released to P50
