Radicle
The part of a seed that develops into the root.
Coleoptile
A sheath protecting the emerging shoot of a germinating seed.

Asexual Reproduction
A method of reproduction that does not involve the fusion of gametes and results in genetically identical offspring.
Vegetative Propagation
A form of asexual reproduction where new plants are produced from the vegetative parts of a plant such as roots, stems, or leaves.
Somatic Embryogenesis
A process where somatic cells develop into embryos, resulting in a new plant.
Apomixis
A form of asexual reproduction where seeds are produced without fertilization.
Meiosis with no chromosome pairing
The process involved in apomixis that leads to the formation of diploid megaspores.
Growth
An increase in size or mass of a plant, often measured by height or weight.
Development
The process through which a plant undergoes a series of orderly changes resulting in the formation of structures.
Monocot
A plant with one embryonic leaf (cotyledon), characteristic of grasses and lilies.
Dicot
A plant with two embryonic leaves (cotyledons), characteristic of beans and roses.
Meristem
A tissue in plants consisting of undifferentiated cells capable of division and growth.
