Candidate can demonstrate their knowledge with regards to the various line side speed signage

DRAW IT and EXPLAIN

Candidate can articulate the differences between PS speeds, EPS speeds and differential speeds.

Permissible speed - The front of the train must be at this speed when a section of line in rear has a higher speed.

Enhanced permissible speed - Class 390 trains in tilting mode.

Differential speed - The speed at the bottom applies to passenger, parcels and postal trains (loaded or empty) and light locomotives. The speed at the top applies to all other trains.

Candidate can demonstrate their knowledge with regards to the various line side equipment used during Emergency Speed Restrictions (ESR) & Temporary Speed Restrictions (TSR).

Candidate can demonstrate their knowledge with regards to variations of ESR's & TSR's and when the AWS electromagnet is disconnected i.e. junctions & bi-directional lines etc.

Candidate understands their responsibilities to adhere to speed restriction for length of their train.

You must tell the signaller immediately if you see that a warning board, a repeating warning board or a speed indicator is:

• Missing

• In a different place from the one published in the Weekly Operating Notice

• Is more restrictive than that shown in the Weekly Operating Notice

Candidate understands a 'Blanket Speed Restriction' its formulation and how one is applied.

If a blanket speed restriction is imposed over an area, emergency indicators and other track equipment are not provided.

Operations Control will arrange for Signallers and Drivers to be advised when such restrictions are imposed or withdrawn
