Nicene Creed
A summary of Catholic beliefs.
Creed
A statement of belief.
Almighty
Unlimited in Power.
Begotten
Jesus is the TRUE/Actual Son of God, always part of God’s plan; not created but divinely generated.
Consubstantial
Of the same substance; Jesus and God the Father are both divine.
Salvation
Being saved from sin and its consequences.
Accordance
Agreeing; "in accordance with the Scriptures" refers to prophets in the Bible foretelling elements of Jesus’ life.
Resurrection
Rising from the dead; includes the belief of the resurrection of the body to Heaven.
Marks of the Church
Essential features of the Church and its mission: One, Holy, Catholic, Apostolic.
One (Church)
Refers to unity in faith, laws, and sacraments; all members believe in one Lord (Jesus).
Holy (Church)
God shared his holiness by sending his Son; holiness is achieved through grace and following Jesus’ example.
Catholic
Means “universal”; core beliefs are the same despite different customs.
Apostolic
The Catholic Church traces its origin back to the Apostles, and their successors lead the Church.
Church
Can refer to the physical church building or the community of people.
Pentecost
The Catholic Church’s “Birthday”: when the apostles went out among the people and began spreading Jesus's message.
