Excretion
The removal of toxic metabolic waste products from the bodies of living organisms.
Urinary System
A system of organs that produce and excrete urine from the body.
Dialysis Machine
A device that removes waste products from the blood in place of the kidneys.
Urea
A nitrogenous waste product formed from the deamination of amino acids.
Carbon Dioxide
A gaseous waste product produced during cellular respiration and excreted by the lungs.
Sweat Glands
Glands in the skin that produce sweat, which contains water, salt, and urea.
Nephron
The microscopic unit in the kidneys responsible for excretion and filtration.
Ultrafiltration
The process that separates different-sized molecules under pressure in the kidneys.
Osmoregulation
The process by which the body regulates water potential in the blood.
Stomata
Small openings on the surface of leaves through which gases are exchanged.
