Energy transformation

Kinetic energy
the energy an object has due to its motion (movement)
Gravitational potential energy
This is the energy in an object when it is lifted upwards (against the force of GRAVITY)
E.g. Lifting a ball straight up before it is dropped to the ground.

Energy stored in chemical bonds

Heat energy
Potential energy
Energy that is stored and held in readiness
Energy efficiency
The percentage of energy put into a system that does useful work
Insulator
A material that does not conduct heat well
Conductor
A material that conducts heat well
Convection
The movement of heat energy by the circulation or movement of a liquid or gas
Radiation
Energy that is radiated or transmitted in the form of rays or waves or particles.
Non - renewable energy resource
a source of energy that could eventually be used up
Fossil fuel
Coal, oil, natural gas, and other fuels that are ancient remains of plants and animals.
Renewable energy resource
a source of energy that can be replaced as it is used or that cannot be used up
Solar energy
energy from the sun
Geothermal energy resource
Energy (such as electricity or heat) made using the energy from the hot magma under the crust of the Earth
