Gospel
the word gospel means “good news”. the story of Jesus’ birth, infancy, teachings, death, and resurrection.(Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John + the acts) (last book of the bible)
Moses
The story of Moses in the Hebrew bible and old testament tells of a Hebrew prophet who led the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt. (know the story of exodus)
Schism
A schism is a split or division between strongly opposed sections or parties, caused by differences in opinion or belief. It is the formal separation of a church into two churches or the secession of a group owing to doctrinal and other differences.
Beatitudes
Beatitude means “blessing” or “promise of true happiness”. the beatitudes are the teachings of Jesus in the sermon on the mount.
they inspire to adopt a certain vision of our lives, namely, the vision of Jesus christ.
the beatitudes challenge us to be people of virtue.
virtue is a firm attitude, mindset, or disposition to do good.
Jesus teaches us that if we live according to the beatitudes, we will live a happy christian life.
john the baptist
St. John the Baptist was an ascetic Jewish prophet known in Christianity as the forerunner of Jesus. John preached about God’s Final Judgment and baptized repentant followers in preparation for it. Jesus was among the recipients of his rite of baptism.
Ten Commandments
I am the Lord the God.
You shall have no other Gods before me.
You shall not take the Lords name in vain.
Remember the sabbath, keep it holy.
Honor your father and mother.
You shall not murder.
you shall not commit adultery.
You shall not steal.
You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
You shall not covet your neighbors house… or anything that belongs to your neighbor.
What Are The Ten Commandments
the commandments are specific directions; a specific description of the basic freedom from sin that is necessary to live as a christian.
the commandments express a humans fundamental duties to god and neighbor.
As such they represent grave obligations. To violate them knowing & willingly in a significant way is to commit a serious sin.

The Golden Rule
The global rule is based on an ethical code of reciprocity. this means a “two way” relationship that involves treating both sides equally. as on reviews the diagram of “the golden rule”, we observe that the quality of empathy with one another is a way to grow morally in a respectful partnership not only as individuals but as a “global-centric” community.

4 basic steps: seeing, judging, acting, and evaluating.
sometimes this process is carefully though tout while other times it is done without even consciously thinking about it.
Revelations
Revelation- A vision is the final book of the new testament.
key themes in the revelation are Jesus’ final return, faithfulness to Jesus throughout ones life, and the comfort of Jesus in suffering and persecution.

Bible
A collection of ancient scripture about God (Yahweh).
two parts: the old testament(Jewish scriptures) and new testament(christians scriptures).
3 types of history: oral history, written history, and edited history.
the old testament was written in Hebrew and the new testament was written in colloquial greek.
the word bible comes from the word biblia which means books.
scripture means “sacred writing”.
Three Types of History
Oral History: stories told, songs sung, history recounted and memorized.
Written History: written stories, history recorded, instructions and guides,
Edited History: selected the best of what was written and told.

Prophecy
A prediction made under divine influence and direction, to tell of future events or to warn people about the consequences of their actions.
Martin Luther
Martin Luther was a Roman Catholic priest. On October 31, 1517 he publicly raised his objections against points of roman catholic church theology and practice.
the ninety five points of debate were written in latin and were about the sale of indulgences and the fact that the local bishop received half of the profits and the other half financed the construction of st. peters basilica in Rome.
Martyrs
A person who is killed or suffers greatly because of their religious or political beliefs.
Incarnation
Latin meaning “ becoming flesh or human”. the mystery of incarnation examines the relationship between the two natures of christ: human and divine.

The story where Jesus turns water into wine. (considered his first public miracle)
Saints
A person who is recognized for their exceptional holiness, devotion, and service to God.
they are seen as examples on how to live a life pleasing to God and are often honored and sought for their instructions.
St. Paul
St. Paul was originally known as Saul, and he was a Roman citizen and a Pharisee. He even presided over the persecutions of the early Christians
However, Saul experienced a powerful vision that caused him to convert to Christianity while on the road to Damascus. He was duly baptized and took the name Paul.
due to his courage and insight the christian community moved past its boundaries of judaism and learned to accept gentiles into the new faith.
