what is tachypnea
when the rate of breathing is too fast, over 20 at resting
rate of breathing is not about…
how much oxygenation you have but how acidic yoru blood is
more breathing =
less acid in the blood stream because you are getting rid of co2
increased metabolic demands…
increase acidity because body is working harder producing more co2 and acids
decreased ventilation..
increases acidity because you are not getting rid of as much co2
what are some other causes of acidity
DKA, lactic acidosis and kidney malfunction
Blood acidity and respiratory rate are closely related because
your lungs control how much CO₂ you keep or get rid of.
what system increases acidity
Sympathetic nervous system
sympathetic nervous system activation increases acidity because it is
early signs of shock, and things like anxiety, panic attacks, and extreme pain which can all increase your respiratory rates
low o2 in the blood stream is
hypoxemia
hypoxemia helps…
make respiratory rate speed up
bradypnea
respiratory rate goes down and slowes
why does respiration rate slow down
because of decreases acidity in blood stream, meds, and neurological injury
decreased acidity in bloodstream =
alkalosis
what kinda meds decrease respiratory rate
sedatives, opiates
what kinda neurological injuries slow down respiratory rates
increased ICP (intracranial pressure)
the more acid in your blood
the higher your respiration rate is
