Point
A precise location in space with no size; it has no dimensions, only position.
Line
A straight path that extends indefinitely in opposite directions; has no endpoints.
Collinear
Describes three or more points that lie on the same line.
Coplanar
Describes points, lines, or figures that lie in the same plane.
Intersect
To cross or meet at a point.
Noncollinear
Describes points that do not lie on the same line.
Noncoplanar
Describes points, lines, or figures that do not lie in the same plane.
Segment
Part of a line with two endpoints.
Midpoint
The point that divides a segment into two congruent segments; coordinates are the average of endpoints.
Distance
The length of a segment joining two points; in the coordinate plane, d = sqrt((x2 − x1)^2 + (y2 − y1)^2).
Coordinate
An ordered pair (x, y) that identifies a point's position on the Cartesian plane.
Distance Formula
d = sqrt((x2 − x1)^2 + (y2 − y1)^2), used to find the distance between two points.
Vertex
The common endpoint of two rays forming an angle; the 'corner' of an angle.
Angle
The figure formed by two rays with a common endpoint (vertex).
Acute angle
An angle measuring less than 90 degrees.
Obtuse angle
An angle measuring more than 90 degrees but less than 180 degrees.
Right angle
An angle measuring exactly 90 degrees.
Straight angle
An angle measuring exactly 180 degrees; represents a straight line.
Angle Addition Postulate
The measure of a larger angle equals the sum of the measures of two adjacent, nonoverlapping angles that form it.
Bisect
To divide a segment, angle, or line into two congruent parts.
Congruent
Exactly equal in size or measure; used for segments or angles.
Bisector
A line, segment, or ray that divides a geometric figure into two congruent parts.
Coordinate plane
A two-dimensional plane defined by perpendicular axes (x and y) where points are represented by ordered pairs (x, y).
