The movement of particles or molecules in a substance. The molecular motions are affected by heat and temperature.
Molecular Motion
A substance which does not easily allow the passage of heat, sound, or electricity.
Insulator
A substance or material which allows easy passage of heat and electricity.
Conductor
The flow of thermal energy from a warm object to a cooler object
Heat
The TOTAL (kinetic) energy of the particles that make up a substance
Thermal Energy
The AVERAGE (kinetic) energy of the particles that make up a substance
Temperature
Transfer of energy from molecule to molecule by direct contact; the molecules themselves do not necessarily change position, but simply vibrate more or less quickly against each other.
Conduction
Transfer of energy in a circular motion that happens when warmer air or liquid (which has faster moving molecules, making it less dense) rises, while the cooler air or liquid (which is slower and more dense) drops down.
Convection
Transfer of energy in the form of a wave through empty space without touch and at the speed of light. Also called Electromagnetic Waves.
Radiation
The amount of heat needed to raise the temperature of 1 gram of a substance 1 degree Celsius.
Specific Heat
Is Air a conductor or insulator
