Solstice
When the sun reaches it’s highest or lowest point in the sky resulting in `the longest or shortest day of the year.
Equinox
the time when day and night are of approximately equal duration, occurring twice a year.
Moon Phases
The various stages the moon goes through in its cycle, including new moon, first quarter, full moon, and last quarter, as it orbits the Earth.
Rotation
The spinning of the Earth on its axis, which takes approximately 24 hours to complete and results in the cycle of day and night.
Revolution
The movement of the Earth around the Sun in an elliptical orbit, taking about 365.25 days to complete, which causes the changing seasons.
New Moon
The phase of the moon when it is not visible from Earth, occurring when the moon is positioned between the Earth and the Sun.
Full Moon
The phase of the moon when it is fully illuminated as seen from Earth, occurring when the Earth is positioned between the moon and the Sun.
Lunar Eclipse
An event that occurs when the Earth passes between the Sun and the moon, causing the Earth's shadow to fall on the moon.
Solar Eclipse
An event that occurs when the moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, blocking the Sun's light partially or completely from reaching the Earth.
Axis
An imaginary line that runs through the center of a planet or moon, around which it rotates.
Waxing
is the phase of the moon during which it appears to grow larger, leading up to a full moon.
Waning
The phase of the moon where it appears to decrease in size after a full moon, leading up to the new moon.
Hemisphere
One half of a planet or moon, often divided into northern and southern or eastern and western sections.
