Employee orientation
The process of welcoming new employees, socializing them into the organization, and clarifying expectations, roles, and behavior.
Purpose of Orientation
To make newcomers feel welcome, begin socialization, understand the organization, and know what is expected in work and behavior.

A checklist used to guide the departmental orientation process for new hires (Figure 8-1).

Instructional design
The systematic planning of training content, activities, and assessments to achieve learning objectives.
Needs analysis
The process of identifying training needs by comparing current performance with desired performance, including task analysis and performance analysis.
Program implementation
The delivery and execution of the training program to learners.
Evaluation
Assessment of training effectiveness, using designs like time-series or controlled experiments and measuring reaction, learning, behavior, and results.
Task Analysis
Assessing tasks to identify the skills and knowledge required to perform them and to determine training needs.
Performance Analysis
Assessing current employees' training needs based on performance data and observations.
Training Needs Analysis
The process to determine whether training is needed and what kind.
On-the-Job Training (OJT)
Training by having the trainee perform the job under supervision.
Coaching or understudy
An OJT method where a skilled worker guides the learner through tasks.
Job rotation
An OJT method where employees rotate through jobs to broaden skills.
Special assignments
Temporary tasks designed to develop new capabilities.
Apprenticeship training
Structured, long-term training combining on-the-job practice with related classroom instruction.
Job Instruction Training (JIT)
A step-by-step instruction method focusing on performing tasks correctly and efficiently.
Programmed Learning
Self-paced instruction where learners answer questions or problems and receive immediate feedback.
Electronic Performance Support Systems (EPSS)
Digital tools that provide on-demand guidance to perform tasks.
Computer-Based Training (CBT)
Training delivered via computer-based modules and programs.
Computer-Managed Instruction (CMI)
A computer-based system that manages and records instruction and progress.
Intelligent Computer-Assisted Instruction (ICAI)
AI-enhanced instructional software that adapts to the learner.
Intelligent Tutoring Systems (ITS)
AI-driven tutoring providing personalized feedback and instruction.
Simulation
