Lymphatic system definition and function
Collaboration of organs, tissues (nodes), thinwalled vessels, and fluid
Function: To maintain fluid balance and contribute to immune system
Organs of lymphatic system
Adenoids tonsils spleen and thymus
Lymph nodes
:filter lymphatic fluid and remove bacteria and foreign objects while making disease fighting cells
Why cant u take blood pressure on side of woman where mastectomy is?
Digestive system function
System where food travels through body and is digested or broken down, almost all of it is in abdominal cavity
1st step of digestive system
Food enters mouth and is broken down
2nd step of digestive system
food passes from oropharynx to esophagus, where its transported to stomach
stomach
Hollow organ that has acidic juices that begin to break food down
small intestine 3 parts and def
3 parts (duodenum, jejunum, ileum) receives stomach food and continues to break it down, nutrients absorbed through walls
large intestine/colon
removes water from waste, anything not absorbed is secreted
other helpful organs for digestion
Liver:produces bile that goes to small intestine for absorption, detoxes
Gall bladder:storage for bile
Pancreas:Secretes juice to help break down
Spleen: Acts as blood filtration system
Appendix: don't know what it does, causes appendicitis
Integumentary system
Functions include protection, water balance, temperature regulation, excretion and shock absorption.
Epidermis
outermost layer, 4 layers within including outer layer of dead skin cells, pigment granules and living cells are in lower layers, palm and soles of feet have 5 layers. No blood vessels or nerves
dermis
blood vessels, nerves, sebaceous and sweat glands, hair follicles. Also has specialized nerve endings, second layer of skin
subcutaneus/fatty layer
layer of fat+soft tissue, final layer
Endocrine system
System of glands that produce hormones that help regulate body activities and function
Pancreas
: Key organ, creates insulin, which is important for glucose levels
adrenal gland
produces epinephrine and norepinephrine, which engage sympathetic nervous system
Renal system
regulate fluid levels, filter chemicals, and adjust ph level
Kidneys
principal organs, filter urea from blood+regulate fluid levels in body
bladder
holds urine
ureters
connect kidneys and bladder
urethra
where urine is secreted
Testes
Produce sperm, housed outside of body in scrotum, connected to penis through epididymis
Penus
secretes sperm, male reproductive organ
Ovaries
develop/release ova
uterus
contains fetus
vagina
female reproductive organ
