IgM
First antibody produced in response; activates complement; agglutinates antigens. Mainly in blood (intravascular), due to large pentameric size — Antibody Isotype
IgG
Most abundant in serum; opsonization, complement activation, crosses placenta. Found in blood and tissues; can cross the placenta to fetus — Antibody Isotype
IgA
Neutralizes pathogens at mucosal surfaces; blocks pathogen adherence. Present in secretions: saliva, tears, milk, mucosal surfaces (gut, respiratory tract) — Antibody Isotype
IgE
Binds mast cells and eosinophils; defense against parasites; allergic reactions. Mainly found on mast cells in tissues — Antibody Isotype
IgD
Appears after IgM on B cells and can be used as a maturation marker; signals through B cell receptors. Primarily on B cell surfaces — Antibody Isotype
