Static friction is the friction that exists when an object isn’t moving and in contact with a surface
Kinetic friction is the friction that exists when an object is moving across a surface
What are the four formulas for kinematics?
v=d/t
vf²= vi²n+2ad
d= vit + .5at²
d= 0.5(vi+vf)t
how do you do dimensional analysis?
basically you break it down into its SI units and cancel the ones that can be cancelled, and simplify. (or cry, optional)
what is dimensional analysis?
it simplifies the units from complicated formulas into SI units which are common and familiar.
what is estimation?
estimation is getting within a correct range of possibilities and not over-exaggerating.
Ex: there are around 150 squirrels on the Guelph campus, there’s actually 200 (U of G News 2016).
What is a projectile?
a projectile is any object that follows a predetermined path by the affects of gravitational acceleration.
Ex: throwing a squirrel in the air, it has to come down, it’ll look like a parabola.
What is the path of a projectile called?
trajectory.
What is acceleration?
acceleration if the change in velocity over the change in distance.
How do you solve a projectile motion problem?
You would separate it into x & y components. Then you solve for your missing values on either the x & y. Time is the same for both components.
What is the constant in the X direction in projectile?
your velocity is constant in the x component.
what is the constant in the y direction in a projectile?
Your acceleration is constant in the y component.
How do you find the velocity on a position vs time graph?
you can take the first derivative to find the velocity.
What happens if there is no velocity when a derivative of a X vs T is taken?
This means your position is constant and your velocity is fixed.
How are integrals used in physics?
if we started with A we could take the integral to find the V and take teh second integral to find X.
