Communication
The process of people sharing thoughts, ideas, and feelings with each other in commonly understandable ways
One-way model
Shows that communication occurs in the presence of internal and external noise and that message is carried by code traveling through a channel
Circular Model
Shows that communication is viewed as circular or Interactive beginning with the sender who communicates of a message to a receiver who interprets it and sends a reply back to the sender
Transaction Model
Communication is viewed as a simultaneous, transactional process between senders and receivers
Sender
The source of the message
Receiver
the interpreter of the message
Stimulated
an internal or external stimulus triggers a thought, which in turn triggers the desire to communicate
Motivation
the need for personal benefit
Encoding
the process of putting a message into the form in which it will be communicated
Decoding
the process the receivers decode messages
Frame of reference
the way people look on things based on background and experience
Paraphrase
summarize in their own words
Code
the symbols that carry the message
Channel
the medium selected to carry the message
Channel richness
the amount of information a channel can convey
Feedback
the verbal response to a message
Descriptive feedback
feedback that is tactfully honest and objective
Evaluative Feedback
feedback that is judgmental and accusatory
Environment
the time, place, physical and social surroundings
Climate
an organization's social and work environment
Noise
anything that interferes with communication by distorting or blocking the message
