Prenatal life: oogonia undergo mitotic division, oogonia differentiation, giving rise to primary oocytes, and primary oocytes enter meiosis and arrest in prophase of first meiotic division
Post natal life in oogenesis
before ovulation the primary oocyte completes first meiotic division,
giving rise to secondary oocyte,
it enters second meiotic division but is held in metaphase II:
if fertilization doesn't occur: the secondary oocyte degenerates,
fertilization occurs: oocyte will complete second meiotic division, giving rise to an ovum
