Primary effect
Immediate impacts caused by the disaster itself, such as destroyed buildings and roads, injured people, cut off communication links, and destroyed habitats.
Secondary effect
Impacts that happen later on, such as diseases spreading because of contaminated water and food shortages due to destroyed farm crops.
Immediate responses
Actions taken straight away, including sending food and water to affected areas, searching for survivors, and providing shelter for the homeless.
Long-term responses
Actions taken over a longer period of time, including rebuilding roads and buildings, creating hazard maps for future disasters, and placing adverts encouraging tourists to come.
