Bill of rights

13th Amendment

Abolished slavery and involuntary servitude, except as punishment for a crime.

Prohibited voting discrimination based on race, color, or previous condition of servitude.

1913
Established the direct election of U.S. senators by voters, instead of state legislatures.

Banned poll taxes in federal elections, protecting voting rights for the poor.
