SEPARATION OF MIXTURES

Separation

a technique that divides a chemical combination or solution into two or more separate product mixtures. usually done to remove all the unwanted materials and obtain useful components.

Distillation

to separate a liquid in a homogeneous mixture, a mixture is heated, and the most volatile component vaporizes at

the lowest temperature.

Filtration

to separate a solid from a liquid in a heterogeneous mixture using a filtering membrane, like a paper cloth

Magnetic Separation

to separate a magnetic solid from a heterogeneous mixture. is the process of separating components of mixtures by using a magnet to attract magnetic substances.

Decantation

to separate a solid from a liquid in a heterogeneous mixture based on gravity. is the process of separation of liquid from solid and other immiscible (non-mixing) liquids, by removing the liquid layer at the top from the layer of solid or liquid below.

Evaporation

is a technique used to separate out homogeneous mixtures that contain one or more dissolved salts. The method drives off the liquid components from the solid components.

Sublimation

to separate a volatile solid from a non-volatile solid. the process in which a solid transform into a gas phase without first melting to form a liquid phase.

Chromatography

is the separation of a mixture by passing it in solution or suspension, used for separating and identifying mixtures that are or can be colored, especially pigments.
