Water Potential

Potential energy of water in the system relative to pure water. Tells us the ability of water molecules to flow freely throughout the system

Hypertonic; Plasmolyzed

Net flow of water out of the cell, & the cell will lose volume

Hypotonic; Turgid

Net flow of water into the cell, & the cell will gain volume

Isotonic; Flaccid

net flow of water both into & out of the cell, & the cell will stay the same
