Milligram (mg)
A mass unit; 1 mg = 0.001 g.
Gram (g)
A mass unit; 1 g = 1000 mg; 1 g = 1,000,000 mcg.
Microgram (mcg)
A mass unit; 1 mcg = 0.001 mg; 1 g = 1,000,000 mcg.
Milliliter (mL)
A volume unit; 1 mL = 0.001 L; 1 L = 1000 mL.
Liter (L)
A volume unit; 1 L = 1000 mL.
Kilogram (kg)
Unit of mass; used for weight; 1 kg × 2.2 = 2.2 lb.
Pound (lb)
Unit of weight; 1 lb ≈ 0.454 kg; 100 kg ≈ 220 lb.
Concentration (%)
Ratio of solute mass to solution volume; e.g., 50% dextrose = 50 g per 100 mL.
mg/mL
Concentration expressed as mg per mL; e.g., 2% lidocaine = 20 mg/mL.
Converting % to mg/mL
Move the percent decimal one place to the right to get mg/mL (e.g., 2% → 20 mg/mL; 0.9% NaCl → 9 mg/mL).
1:1000 epinephrine (dilution)
Dilution of 1:1000; about 0.01 mg/mL and 0.1%.
1:100,000 epinephrine
Dilution of 1:100,000; about 0.01 mg/mL and 0.001%.
1:200,000 epinephrine
Dilution of 1:200,000; about 0.005 mg/mL and 0.0005%.
Dalton's Law
Total pressure of a gas mixture equals the sum of the partial pressures of its components.
Air composition (partial pressures)
Atmospheric gases (e.g., N2, O2, Ar, H2O, CO2) contribute to total pressure via their partial pressures.
E cylinder (oxygen)
Volume: ~660 L at 2200 psi; at 1 L/min lasts ~660 min; at 4 L/min lasts ~165 min.
H cylinder (oxygen)
Volume: ~7000 L at 2200 psi; at 1 L/min lasts ~2200 min; at 4 L/min lasts ~1750 min.
Pressure-volume relationship (Boyle's Law)
For a gas at constant temperature, volume is inversely proportional to pressure; half pressure yields roughly half the volume.

Weight conversion shortcut (lb to kg)
Quick method: subtract 10% from pounds, then divide by 2 to estimate kilograms.
